I know, I know… I should be talking about Christmas considering the fact that it’s Christmas Eve. But after writing a post for TaxDayTeaParty.com this morning about the blatant attempt to strip me of my rights and liberties, I can’t quite shake the sense of duty I currently feel to fight back.
Over the past few weeks I’ve received countless emails from tea party activists asking about recall provisions for federal officials. Unfortunately, in most states it isn’t possible, so I haven’t personally given it much attention.
But, it appears as thought it is indeed possible in 18 or so states. Which, in my mind, makes the thought certainly one worth pursuing.
Below I’ve listed the states where I believe a recall initiative is possible. I’ve also included a list of specific grounds required for recall using the resource made available here.

Many of these Senators are up for re-election in 2010. I believe our time would be best spent beating them at the ballot box first. But for those who are not, or those who use their power and money to defeat the people in 2010, recall initiatives should be launched to remove them.
I would especially note the states where a simple violation of the oath to office is grounds for recall. I mean, what part of “Congress shall make no law” do they not understand. And how can one so quickly forget that his/her oath to office includes the part about “upholding the constitution” and protecting our rights?
Food for thought…

[...] UPDATE: I’ve added some basic information about recalling a Senator here. [...]
Landreau without a doubt should be recalled! She took a bribe and bragged about it publicly! This needs to be a serious goal for us to do!
And baucus appointed a girlfriend to a job in Montana! There’s another thing!
Eric, Merry Christmas…could you give me a little help? Yesterday I rented the Park Ridge, South Park field house. I am going to have a Town Hall meeting. I have several CONSERVATIVE candidates speaking and answering questions.
The Park District had to have a name of the group holding the meeting so I made one up for them. Tea Party Conservatives. So far I am the only member. I am going to do my best to get local Conservatives to vote for Conservatives. I plan on being the local pick-up depot for Conservative campaign literature and yard signs. I am and will remain active in Tea Party functions. I have paid reservations for February Nashville event. Washington D.C. rally, and the PA caucus. Your mentioning our event would help a lot. It is: Town Hall Meeting at Park Ridge IL South Park field house (Cumberland & Talcott Ave)sponsored by Tea Party Conservatives on January 28 Thursday at 6:45 pm. Only Conservative candidates will attend. I have a email: TeaPartyConserve@gmail.com…Thanks much. Jerry V. Herr cell 224-616-9701 address 114 Gillick St. Park Ridge IL 60068 home phone 847-825-6949
Eric, please change address to just Park Ridge IL not house number and remove home phone if you can.Jerry
I think that tyranny has to be delt with and its time to deal with it now. These guys have been getting away with implementing more ways to take from us and have kept taking from us. We need to start forming aliances big time with what ever group out there is looking for the same things we are. Last summer I started educating myself and getting involved in a local tea party. After I started learning about how the Federal Reserve got started and how in that same year the government started illegally (put into place) the federal income tax structure I have been furious and dumn founded that we let this happen and have done nothing to reverse it. NOW IS OUR TIME!!!!!!
Well its been to long coming. lets move as fast as we can, before they pass bills that can not be reversted. there ought to be away to get a court order to put a hold on these things they are trying to push though before its to late. Things that are unconstutional should be enough reason for a court order. We need to put the power of the people back into the states. We need Gods wisdom in all matters. lets get back to prayer and ask god for just that.
Would it be possible to get a list like this for Congressional members also?
removable by voting them out, or a recall, it makes little difference to me, as long as we show them who elected who, and who is paying the bills.
Why would you want to recall Jon Kyl or John McCain. It makes me think you’re silly even considering it.
I live in Indiana. Our state is not on the list. Senator Bayh (D) is up for re-election in 2010. In the meantime, can our state legislatures pass a law to recall a senator based on the provisions of other states? Our 2nd is Senator Lugar(R) which we believe is a RINO. If he doesn’t change his ways, he needs to be ousted.
[...] Realistic? Probably not. But, as Eric mentions, many of these people are up for re-election in 2010. It’s worth making a list and checking it twice now as we get ready to kick these traitors out next November. Many of these Senators are up for re-election in 2010. I believe our time would be best spent beating them at the ballot box first. But for those who are not, or those who use their power and money to defeat the people in 2010, recall initiatives should be launched to remove them. [...]
Mary Landrieu is either stupid or currupt, I think its the latter. She looks so cute but is so deadly, ignoring the will of the people. She is completely bought over and needs to be recalled. Need Louisianas to petition the governor and legislators to start the process to be able to impeach, or recall US Senators who do not do the will of their constituents. People wo sell out their vote are no better than the street walkers.
It might make the most sense to select a Senator where a recall is most likely to succeed (based on reasons allowed and actual actions of a Senator in that state). Then conservatives across the country could help with the effort… either financially or boots on the ground to collect signatures etc. Perhaps showing the power of The People will get them to reconsider their votes. Busying some of them with a lawsuit like was done to Sarah Palin several times would make my day. Just a thought…
Richard Burr and Kay Hagan are in N Carolina not North Dakota. I live in NC
My thought are this… these people have become the tyranny the constitution speaks of. They are treasonists and we have a right and duty to fight them. I say lets starve them out of office. Cut off the flow of money. Is that not what the boston Tea Part was about? No taxation without representation. We sure are not being represented are we???
Wow, this is really great! I’ve been trying to find out if there was a way to recall these traitors, but I found out that it could only be done with local politicians. That’s why I’ve been thinking about getting petitions signed in every state, to get a constitutional amendment placed on the ballot for the next election, that would give WE THE PEOPLE the right to impeach any member of the house, the senate, or even the president, if we find them to be guilty of not upholding the constitutional oath that they swore to, or if they are deemed by us to be guilty of treason and/or corruption. Any ideas about how to get that accomplished???
Good evening, All!
I dug deeper on this recall idea and was told by an attorney that even though the people of a state could recall a US Senator, federal law would trump the state recall, preventing his removal. Looks like state recalls can only be used to remove someone from state office.
You might want to keep this in mind next time you vote. Make sure the person you are voting for is going to represent you as you are stuck with them for a long while.
