They invited us on to talk about Recess Rallies. Unfortunately, they ended up taking the time to blast our efforts and claim that I’m “Un-American” for opposing government intervention in healthcare.
It’s pretty painful to watch, so I applaud you if you can make it all the way through.

Did the host even take a breath?
I don’t know anyone who can talk AND listen at the same time.
Sad display.
Eric, this is hard. He is very something I don’t like.
Amen, Sally. This was not an interview to listen to the opponents side, this was a soapbox speech from a very angry anchor that wanted to belittle anyone that shows opposition to the plan that has already been voted on in the House. It is, indeed, a sad display…well said. It’s just upsetting because anyone showing opposition is treated like they are stupid and that is just so insulting.
When confronted with alternatives such as the bill in the video, we should acknowledge that we would be willing to entertain all new alternatives. The really important thing is to SLOW DOWN THE PROCESS and give everyone the time to understand the proposed plans and then be able to make informed choices. If the politicians were really concerned, positive parts of all plans could be coelesced into a comprehnensive plan that remains within the means of the country.
The KEY is TIME! It took time to get in this mess and it will take time to get out. I’m a retired Department Director of two Major Teaching County Hospitals so I’ve seen it happen!
OMG OMG OMG! That MNSBC commentator whoa! Talk about demeaning a person. He was obviously on a mission of what I’m not particularly sure. I had to turn it off he gave me such a headache.
Dilan did not make it clear that it is NOT the public option. Dilan is actually very much PRO market and understands issues (I have watched him on CNBC). He argued with you without giving you a fair explanation of it is he has in his hand!!! You were talking about one thing, but he was talking about another, unfortunatelly. We have to review that other option. He talked about competition and portability and that is all pro market.
This host likes to hear himself. He is an example of the extreme liberals in this county who have NO regard for anyone who does not agree with them. The health problem in this county is way to important to rush into any solution without a lot of debate and imput by ALL CITIZENS.
Eric, I’m impressed with your ability to listen and stay focused. I will be sending a check to help defray your travel costs if you keep appearing on television.
Whatever happened to journalists without an obvious bias? This MSNBC commentator is a disgrace to the profession! And good for you, Eric, for maintaining your focus and trying to get out our message! The government has no business in managing any part of our health care.
That anchor was out of control… wow what an attack you got from this guy… and the media went after Lou Dobbs.. this guy is way out there.. left wing commentator myabe… congratulations Eric.. what was this he said.. thanks for joining the conversation.. this guy was pitching his agenda.. that was not a conversation.. there is a network I my TV will never find again. I am locking it out on my channel find so I never have to see that guy again.
Again, all of congress and and their dependents should and must be subject to the limitations of any plan they propose and pass. They also should be taxed into the system. They and other governmental agencies and groups should not have exclusive medical benefit plans until death of their youngest youth. The 40 million uninsured include 20million+ ILLEGAL aliens, millions of healthy youth that should be covered for major medical and emergency room services only, and Adults who choose not to participate. We do not need to take away from seniors who have paid and earned their better quality care and added length of quality life. End of discussion from here.
You know, I learned a long time ago that when you have a “conservative” and a “left wing liberal” together on a show, doesn’t matter what you say they will continue to talk and talk even while you are talking to cover over what you are saying….it’s a great tactic, be rude, loud, and ignor what the other person is saying and just keep talking so the other one can’t be heard….when are the conservatives going to fight fire with fire…
If you want to be heard then fight back with their tactics…..Obama uses and was trained with the Saul Alinsky “rules for radicals” and if we are going to win, then we have to use their rules as well….it’s ironic isn’t it that the man who sits in the Oval Office, the oraganizer of organizers is condeming the grass roots organizing and coming together. What hypocrisy.
Eric, you did great!
Kudos Eric for “attempting” to get a word across to Mr. Soapbox. Please keep in mind, he and other lib anchor’s will continue to cut you off and demean you in the process. I suggest you continue to the best of your ability, to talk OVER him as they do you. When you do get that glorious instant to respond, challenge these nut cases to remain silent while you TRY to answer their “elongated” multiple questions. In other words, be quick to demean them as they you. If they cut your mic out of frustration, then you’ve won the battle! Do NOT cower to these idiots who just happens to sit in an anchor seat! Also may I suggest, you lean forward while responding, use an occasional hand gesture or two, like they do. Speak up and speak loud like this nut case. Keep up the good fight! We’re counting on you. My contribution will be forthcoming.
Nice video, really, very nice.
Once again we are “Being told,” how things should go and be rather than being “heard.” This is why we are upset, the government does the same thing as Mr. Ratigan.
Because Mr. Ratigan, you know better than all the rest of us right? you have been there right? You have lived on welfare? Were raised on welfare? You have been to public health? You have lived in the projects? You have tried to rent a house using a section eight? A house that no owner in his right mind would rent to someone on welfare and a section eight? You have been homeless because of all this? You are elderly and have no money to pay for health care and it’s benefits and worry that you might end up homeless? You have seen first hand how government institutions like the ones mentioned above can break the pride and backbone of any American that has been forced to deal with them for any length of time? I thought not Sir! But I have, I have been through all of these things.
Until the day comes when you have to sit in front of a government social worker and beg and plead that they believe you , while they smirk at you as though you are nothing, then deny you food, medical care, housing, and aid for your children and yourself sir…
Do not try to convince me that a governemnt run “Anything,” is a good thing. Do not preach as though you know what the American people need most, you sir have not been there and you won’t ever be, hypocrisy sir, hypocrisy.
We want to be heard sir! We don’t want CNBC elitists making our decisions for us anymore than we want Washington elitists making them.
God Bless!
Wow. I thought he wanted to hear your view on things, but obviously he just wanted to hear himself talk. He was like a run away train! He didn’t even let other newscasters say anything until the end. He verbally lashed out at you so much, I could hardly stand to listen. I’m amazed you kept your train of thought with all the NOISE going on!
I read the WaPo op-ed, which had precious little information in it. It’s also not part of 3200, which is the only plan anyone seems to be discussing, but hey, *wicked cool* hostboy had managed to obtain a copy and read the damn thing, although it’s not one of the three that’s even been scored yet. And while we’re on the subject of ‘acknowledging’ truths, one of the reasons our costs are so high is because Americans pay for much more research and technology than o lets say France or Canada, and then send them the benefits on our dime. The taxpayers pay for that, both in increased med costs and the hit we take for sending our efforts out to other countries so cheaply. That’s our legislators fault, not our hc systems. It’s also a good argument for telling them to step the hell off and why. Our supposed ’sub-par health care results’ might have something to do with the fact that other countries gov-run hc systems don’t report the inefficiencies as responsibly as we do.
Unsurprisingly, I hadn’t seen this because like most of America, I don’t watch pmsnbc either.
Does that guy breathe? Love how he rattles on and on to make his point and then talks over the satellite delay as you try to respond. What a windbag! Also, the other woman’s response about being able to keep your current private coverage..well, maybe. The bill specifically prohibits private insurers from signing up new members after the date of the bill. So, if you leave your current insurer for any reason (change jobs, etc.), you will be forced into the gov’t. option. Nice play on words so they can say sure, you can keep your current coverage. Technically true, but… Scary stuff!
Eric: You are a man of integrity and great patience! Let us ask the obvious question: Who does this man really work for? Is it not obvious that he is a mouth piece for the Government run media? He had no intention of allowing you to express your views in a cogent manner. When one goes into the “lions den”, one must expect Lions. Their natural reaction is to overcome their “prey”. He had already planned to make a “meal” of you or anyone who differs from his opinion and since you were in his “den” he could control the situation and make you or any one of an opposing opinion to look like a an inferior person. Take it from a senior citizen; consider the source. Things are never apples and apples with these people. They have an agenda and its not in our favor. I like the verse in scripture that says “we should to be as wise as serpents, and peaceful as doves”. Heavy on the wise! God bless you!
We all agree that America needs reform. But it does not need to be taken over by our government. Guidelines yes takeover no. Is that so hard for everyone to understand. If this administration had it their way the bill that no one read and that makes provisions for a consultant to come into the homes of the elderly to have a end of life consult. A bill that would force rationing of healthcare due to the addition of all the people who don’t have healthcare into the system. A bill that states that a government agency has the right to be in the middle of you and your doctors decision on what plan if care you will recieve and help make decision on your healthcare with the major purpose of cost being paramount. A bill that invades the privacy of every American by having in Washington not only a copy of your medical records but a copy of your financial assets too. This bill would of been signed sealed and delivered before we or anyone would of known that these provisions were even there. This is not about healthcare. This is about control over every aspect of American’s lives. From the cradle to the grave. That is what we are against. Government control over every decision we make from what investments we can make to what cars we can buy to what banks we can put the little money we have in to how we are going to live and how we are going to die. No one but God and the American people have the right to make those decisions. Keep up the fight. You are not alone
Why not just walk out like Reagan did?
Eric, The Widden/Bennett bill would be something I think we should support. It takes the government out to a great extent. We need to let each person be more accountable for his health care dollar.
It was pretty evident the guy who interviewed you is a jerk. He prides himself on being a “host” and that it is “his show”… A host does not overwhelm and consume his quest… only a spider does that. I think even those who might agree with the opinions of this rude character, will see how he tried to bulldoze you. Most on the”right”can certainly see through “fair and balanced” Bill O’Riley… he acts the same as this guy. I’m sorry but I can’t stomach MSNBC so I don’t know the name of the so called host.
Who was that guy at MSNBC? He needs to hear from me!
This was not an interview. It was not a conversation.
I liked how he had to tell Eric it was his show repeatedly. He must really be proud of himself. And did you see the thickness of that bill he was holding!! Yikes!
This guy obviously can hear, but doesn’t like to listen.
We don’t have to come up with the answers to protect a great wrong.
One and only one thing should be the bottom line. Will someone – anyone – not receive medical care becasue they are too old or to sick (thus costing the government to much money). I don’t care how cheep something is – if it cost a life – free is to high.
We can not let this health bill pass.
Unfortunately, you and the journalist were not really talking about the same thing. If the bill he was holding has any merit then perhaps it’s worth looking into before we automatically outrule it. The comment above (Don Barlow) suggesting that we need TIME is wise and accurate. TIME is critical so we can find an intelligent, consumer/politically friendly and cost-effective alternative to what our present administration is pushing.
It seems that this MSNBC guy likes to listen to himself talk. I’m really glad he’s not the one with the reigns…he’s a nightmare. I don’t care what position he’s in, he lost any respect I might have held for him in under ten minutes. Eric was composed, and level-headed. I think he just might have helped the cause and gained some good airtime to further the cause. I’m sure many people’s curiosity was perked when they watched this. Eric definitely looked like the good guy.
This man just wanted a forum that allowed him to take charge and express his own views. He was belligerent and definitely not interested in any view other than his own. Typical of the left wing, isn’t it? How very sad. No wonder we can’t come up with anything, health care or otherwise, that is acceptable to the American population.
I don’t know where he gets off saying that Wyden-Bennett promotes competition…. he OBVIOUSLY has not read it. Here’s a snippet:
“As a result, there is growing consensus that comprehensive reform of the U.S. health care system is essential, with the goals of such a reform effort being both to achieve universal coverage and to moderate health care cost growth while improving the quality of care.”
Achieve universal coverage? Moderate health care cost growth? What the hell does this have to do with competition?!
Have a look at it yourself: http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=674
Note how frequently terms like “state-based,” “public,” “mandatory,” and “universal” appear. We should ABSOLUTELY NOT support this bill – we should demand a free-market system, as we’ve been doing.
Mr. MSNBC should have taken more time to read this document before telling a free-market advocate to rally behind a plan that is chock full of government intervention.
